Crowdfunding campaign for Greensburg Community Schools Sensory Garden launched

Oct. 29—GREENSBURG — Decatur County residents and children will soon have access to an inclusive sensory garden if a crowdfunding campaign reaches its goal of raising $10,000 by Dec. 27, 2024.

If successful, the project — led by the Decatur County Community Foundation — will receive a matching grant as part of the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority’s CreatINg Places program.

Funds from this campaign will be used to create a sensory garden where children can stimulate and engage all five of their senses in a safe environment to learn, play and interact with nature.

“We are excited to bring another program into Greensburg that allows children to work together towards total inclusion,” former Greensburg Chief of Police Brendan Bridges, who is helping spearhead this effort, said. “The sensory garden will allow students to work together to learn about nature and what nature can provide for everyone to live healthy lifestyles. This project will benefit students at each grade level in the Greensburg Community Schools.”

Since the CreatINg Places program began in 2016, projects have raised more than $11.7 million in public funds and an additional $10 million in matching IHCDA funds.

The program is available to projects located in Indiana communities. Non-profit entities (with 501c3 or 501c4 status) and local units of government are eligible to apply. Eligible projects must have a minimum total development cost of $10,000, where the recipient will receive $5,000 in IHCDA matching funds should it successfully raise $5,000 through Patronicity. IHCDA will provide matching grant funds up to $50,000 per project.
