Criminals are taking advantage of the tragedy in Burnsville, Minnesota, according to city officials. A warning was posted on the city’s website to alert residents about scams related to the incident. The city plans to provide links to official donation sites and more information on how to help the victims’ families. The Better Business Bureau (BBB) warns that crowdfunding websites may not properly vet campaigns, leaving donors vulnerable to scams. The BBB advises donors to contact the organizer of a campaign through GoFundMe and report any suspicious activity. The shooting in Burnsville resulted in the deaths of two police officers and a firefighter/paramedic. The suspect also died in the incident. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is leading the investigation. This shooting marks the ninth time in eight months that first responders have been killed or injured by gunfire in Minnesota and surrounding areas.
