LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — As Florida, North Carolina, and Georgia struggle to recover from the damages of Hurricane Helene, the Better Business Bureau is warning of scams in our area.
People see the horrendous devastation from the storm and want to help out.
Reanna Smith-Hamblin, President and CEO of the BBB of Kentucky and southern Indiana, visited WDRB Mornings on Wednesday and said people need to do their homework, so they don’t get scammed.
If someone contacts you online or through text with an emotional story, watch out.
Scam artists will do that and then lure you into a fake website that looks legitimate.
You also need to be careful with crowdfunding.
“A lot of people are sharing their stories and saying they need help,” Smith-Hamblin said. ” With crowdfunding, if you don’t know the person or know someone who does know them, you need to be very cautious.”
