Utilising crowdfunding, American Hero Press is launching the Frazetta Gallery Series – four limited edition curated, themed collector books, celebrating the work of Frank Frazetta, widely recognised as one of the most renowned illustrators of the 20th Century, primarily for his science fiction and fantasy art.
Featuring Frazetta masterpieces in oversized, frameable gallery format, the Frazetta Gallery Series are officially licensed productions from the Frank Frazetta Estate and the Frazetta Art Museum in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania. Each book will be designed and printed to the highest available quality from the best existing files.
The first release of these individual volumes is Terror, which includes 1960s and 1970s horror magazine cover art, and paperback and hardcover paintings showcasing your favourite nightmares.
Each book will be produced in softcover, hardcover, and limited, slipcased hardcover editions and will be individually released between now and the end of 2025 as separate books, and potentially separate Kickstarter events.
“These are the kinds of books that are meant to become a cornerstone in anyone’s collection of Frazetta art,” say American Hero Press.
The Introduction to the Terror volume comes from Frankie Frazetta, grandson of Frank Frazetta, and curator of The Frazetta Art Museum which contains the largest collection of Frazetta originals in the world. Frankie’s goal is the ongoing preservation of the work of his grandfather and maintaining accessibility for all his fans to visit.
Other contributors include Brom, American Gothic Fantasy Artist and Illustrator; David Vincent Palumbo, American Illustrator and Fine Artist; Ed Binkley, Award Winning Fantasy Artist and Career Art Educator; and Peter Normanton, Writer/Editor, and Horror Authority.
Details about each of the three pledge tiers, as well as stretch goals can be found at the Kickstarter launch page.
This Kickstarter will only run for a limited time, so fans are encouraged to lock in their support so they don’t miss out.
The New York Times once said of the hugely influential comic creator and illustrator Frank Frazetta (9th February 1928 – 10th May 2010) that he “helped define fantasy heroes like Conan, Tarzan and John Carter of Mars with signature images of strikingly fierce, hard-bodied heroes and bosomy, callipygian damsels.”
Frazetta took the sex and violence of the pulp fiction of his youth and added even more action, fantasy and potency, but rendered with a panache seldom seen outside of major works of Fine Art.
Despite his fantastic subject matter, the quality of Frazetta’s work has not only drawn comparisons to the most brilliant of illustrators, Maxfield Parrish, Frederic Remington, Norman Rockwell, N.C. Wyeth but, even to the most brilliant of fine artists, including Rembrandt and Michelangelo and, major Frazetta works sell for millions of dollars, breaking numerous records.
A Forbes magazine article, titled “Schwarzenegger’s Sargent” led with the line, “Which artist helped make Arnold governor? Frank Frazetta, the Rembrandt of barbarians.”
His work has not only inspired generations of artists, but also movies and directors including the Conan films, John Carter of Mars, the sensationally successful Lord of the Rings trilogy, Robert Rodriguez’ films including From Dusk Till Dawn, Ralph Bakshi films, the epic, award-winning Game of Thrones series, Tim Burton’s Sleepy Hollow, Disney’s animated Tarzan films, Francis Ford Coppola’s Apocalypse Now and George Lucas’ Star Wars series.
American Hero Press is a small-press publishing company located in Kansas City, Missouri whose staff, collectively, have more than 100 years of collecting and publishing experience in the fields of comic/sequential art, science fiction/fantasy and horror. The Press is dedicated to presenting landmark creations from the most renowned artists and writers of the 20th Century in strictly limited editions.
As a publisher, they go to print or production one time for any project. The number of copies available is limited and when those are gone, as with recent The Rocketeer releases, for example, no more are produced.
No matter how many Frazetta books or prints you own or how good the printing is for any of them, there is nothing like seeing the original art up close, and The Frank Frazetta Museum offers that opportunity. Plan a visit – or at least visit the museum store online for purchases to support their ongoing preservation efforts.
