The Kickstarter campaign for Frost Giant Studios’ spiritual successor to Starcraft, Stormgate, has successfully concluded. With 28,143 backers pledging $2,380,701 on Kickstarter, the campaign exceeded its original goal of $100,000 by 2380%. The campaign achieved its funding goal in just 15 minutes after its launch in December.
The development of Stormgate was already funded, so the Kickstarter campaign aimed to produce a physical Collector’s Edition. However, the campaign’s success unlocked various stretch goals related to gameplay and content. These include an Arctic Tileset, HUD skins, additional 3vE weekly Mutators, a new player assist tool, a 3v3 mode early preview, expanded bot personalities, profile portraits, advanced hero customization, a WebToon series, and an early preview of the editor.
Excitingly, an open beta for Stormgate will be available during Steam Next Fest from February 5 to February 12. The beta will feature a 3-player co-op vs. AI mode with two playable heroes, competitive 1v1 with no heroes, and custom lobbies.
Stormgate is a classic-style RTS that evokes memories of Blizzard’s Starcraft. Developed by a team comprised of Starcraft 2 and Warcraft 3 veterans, the game was announced in June 2022 and showcased at events such as the PC Gaming show in June 2023 and Gamescom in August 2023.
The game will be released on Steam and is built on Unreal Engine 5. Interested players can wishlist Stormgate on Steam, although a firm release date has not yet been announced.
