hello.app announces it will allocate a total of €300,000 for crowdfunding, with the possibility of expansion based on demand, which will complement its €2M funding round.
—
The crowdfunding, which will open next March 20 on the Seedrs platform, will require a minimum investment of €1,000. Anyone interested can contact them through their email team@hello.app. Its CEO, Álvaro Pintado, has clarified that the main goal of this financing technique “is to be able to launch the app as soon as possible on Google Play and iOS so that users can not only upload information but also store network data in exchange for monetary reward.”
The platform has taken several strategic steps in recent months: from the purchase of a domain valued at €107,000 to the opening of a €2M seed funding round, including a €170,000 investment round. To date, hello.app already has investors of the caliber of IESE, ESADE, Castiventures, or Bcombinator. These tactics are joined by the opening of the crowdfunding, which will allow them to get a bit closer to the startup’s goals: to reach a valuation of one billion euros in the next three years.
hello.app, future competitor of Google Drive or Dropbox
According to Álvaro, “in a short time our devices will be able to replace large centralized server farms.” hello.app is a geo-redundant, encrypted, open-source, and user-controlled web3 ecosystem that was born with the goal of storing data in a different way, characteristics that make it the first software to meet all these features worldwide. According to Álvaro Pintado Santaularia, the CEO who started this startup at 17, “if people could see on a screen the real monetary value of what all their information on the internet is worth, they would give it much more importance, because that’s exactly what we’re going to show users.” And, apparently, it is yielding results: a total of 150,000 users have already joined hello.app and the platform has experienced a 2,500% growth in just 3 months.
The proposal made by this software aims to revolutionize data storage as we have conceived it so far. One of the main features is that it is decentralized: data is distributed across multiple devices and not just one company. In fact, users can lend spare space from their own mobiles or tablets in exchange for money, or they can pay for new space. “It’s a must for those who prioritize security when storing their data, since, being distributed and not centralized, tracking or cyberattacks are much less likely,” Pintado points out. This also allows for “more sustainable storage and the use of space on own devices, which often goes unused,” adds the CEO.
Another feature that attracts new users is that it is open source, so users have complete freedom to propose changes or contribute something to the app. “This allows for a lot of transparency and denotes a gesture of welcoming support from the community and getting involved in the project in a more active way,” Pintado explains.
