2000AD and Misty publisher Rebellion has just launched its first ever comics Kickstarter for the first issue of a brand new romance comic, Roxy.
Available to back today and featuring a host of exclusive rewards, merchandise, and surprises for backers, Roxy is “guaranteed to leave you gasping for air,” Rebellion tell us. It certainly looks a far cry from the original title, published between 1958 and 1963, when it merged with Valentine after 288 issues.
Shipping for fans old and new worldwide, backers can take their pick from digital, paperback or hardback editions, with variant covers from superstar artists Tula Lotay, Hannah Templer and Marguerite Sauvage, Roxy will feature four unexpected and dynamic stories of fun and flirty love and lust from some of the best storytellers in comics today:
“The Getaway Girls” by Alex de Campi and Erica Henderson, sees aspiring model Melanie head to Paris in the hopes of making her big break in the Capital of Fashion.
But as soon as she locks eyes on superstar model Hattie of the world-famous Getaway Girls, admiration turns to lust and things go from friendly to flirty. Melanie’s world changes overnight – but what secrets is Hattie hiding from her? And will Melanie notice in time?
“Flowers for Agatha” is a supernatural tale of lost romance by Sarah Gordon. It’s been almost a decade since the magical Agatha said goodbye to the love of her life, who went into the woods and never returned.
On a walk through those very same woods, she finds herself face-to-face with the man she lost. What tragedy befell him in the woods, and can they conjure up a happier ending this time?
Banmoor by Magdalene Visaggio and Sterric is a time-travelling story which pays tribute to regency romance. After her father passes away, Becky is shocked to find that his will left her the keys to a huge country house deep in the heart of the English countryside.
After she flies over from America to investigate her new home, she discovers a secret room which allows her to travel into the past, where she meets the man of her dreams. Or so she thinks…
“What I Was Made For” by Nadia Shammas and Jaws Stone is a story of love, loneliness and companionship, as Alix reports for duty on their first day on a spaceship in the far future.
Symbiotically connected to the mech they operate during their working hours, Alix soon finds that their connection goes deeper than they could ever have expected. Are they getting too close?
Whatever your level of spice, Roxy has something for you as it revives the spirit of classic British romance comics for the 21st century.
All of the writing art for the stories to be featured in Roxy have already been completed. After the Kickstarter campaign ends on 8th August 2024, Rebellion will begin work on compiling all the pages into their respective editions, along with the creation of any new content we’ve unlocked during the campaign.
Originally launched in 1958, the original Roxy ran for 288 weekly issues which caught the imagination of young readers across Britain. Now, the title returns for an all-new anthology featuring four modern romance stories bound to inspire a whole new generation… so don’t miss out on what Rebellion describes “as your chance to take home the hottest comic of the Summer!”
• Roxy will run on Kickstarter from 16th July until the 8th August 2024
