Dave Rusness, Fargo, was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), a progressive and incurable disease that results in in the loss of muscle control. This diagnosis has brought significant emotional and financial strain to the Rusness family and poses a hereditary risk for his children and grandchildren. Friends of the family are hosting a Lend A Hand Up online fundraiser to help the family with medical expenses, the purchase of mobility devices and other needs as they modify their home for safety and accessibility. A benefit for Hudson Longtin, infant son of Jeramy and Lindsy Longtin, Fargo, will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 26, at El Zagal, 1429 3rd St. N. Hudson was diagnosed with mosaic trisomy22 at his 20-week appointment and has been referred to the Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis. Proceeds from the online auction, raffle, bake sale, and free-will taco bar will help the Longtin family, who are experiencing financial challenges due to Hudson’s medical issues. Lend A Hand Up is a 501c3 nonprofit subsidiary of Dakota Medical Foundation supporting area families experiencing hardship due to a health issue, recent loss of life, or traumatic event. All funds raised by Lend A Hand Up help families residing in Cass, Clay and Becker Counties. Gifts raised through Lend A Hand Up’s giving site increase in value by 20% due to generous Boost sponsors.
