The Kickstarter campaign for Frost Giant Studios’ spiritual successor to Starcraft, Stormgate, has successfully concluded. The game received $2,380,701 in funding from 28,143 backers on Kickstarter, surpassing its original goal of $100,000 by 2380%. The campaign achieved its funding goal within 15 minutes of its launch in December.
The development of Stormgate was already funded, so the Kickstarter campaign aimed to produce a physical Collector’s Edition. However, the campaign’s success has unlocked various stretch goals related to gameplay and content. These include an Arctic Tileset, HUD skins, additional 3vE weekly Mutators, a new player assist tool, a 3v3 mode early preview, expanded bot personalities, profile portraits, advanced hero customization, a WebToon series, and an early preview of the editor.
Interestingly, players won’t have to wait long to try out Stormgate. An open beta will be available on Steam Next Fest from February 5 to February 12. The beta will feature a 3-player co-op vs. AI mode with two playable heroes, competitive 1v1 without heroes, and custom lobbies.
Stormgate is a classic-style real-time strategy game that evokes memories of Blizzard’s Starcraft. This is not surprising considering the development team consists of veterans from Starcraft 2 and Warcraft 3. The game was announced in June 2022 and has been showcased at various events, including the PC Gaming show in June 2023 and Gamescom in August 2023.
Stormgate will be released on Steam and is built on Unreal Engine 5. Interested players can already wishlist the game on Steam, although a firm release date has not been announced yet.
